The Statue of Balto is dedicated to the sled dog who traveled more than 670 miles through an Alaskan blizzard to save children from the diphtheria epidemic. Balto is a children’s favorite– remember the animated film (a true story) about the dog Balto? Balto was sculptured by Frederick George Richard Roth and placed in Central Park in 1925.
Balto was a Siberian Husky sled dog.
Balto was born in 1919 – March 14, 1933.
