FAO Schwarz, the most famous toy store in New York City and quite possibly the world, has been known as second home to Santa and his elves since first opening their doors in 1876. After trying a few different locations they finally settled into their current famed flagship location at 5th Ave and 59th street in 1986. It has been a major year round tourist destination and the biggest holiday destination ever after. Offering something for every kid and as well as for the kid in every one of us, its collection of unique toys and fine children’s products remains unparalleled. Children and adults can’t help but run their feet over the famous “walkable” flat floor Piano featured in many movies (most notably Big starring Tom Hanks) composing unique tunes with each step of the keyboard. Other attractions include a life size Lego sculpture from Star Wars, a classic New York candy shop offering all kinds of unique candies and a Muppet Whatnot Workshop. What’s a Whatnot…all those whacky muppet extras you see in their productions! Whether you’re traveling with kids or on your own FAO is not to be missed.
