New Years Eve in Times Square
New Years Eve in New York City is like no other place on earth. The scoreboard says it all, over one million people will be in Times Square to watch the ball drop and one billion people worldwide will be watching. The ball this year has 2700 Waterford Crystal triangles and weighs almost 12,000 pounds. This tradition goes all the way back to 1904 and the dropping of the ball officially started in 1907. New Years Eve in Times Square defines what bright lights big city is all about and sets the bar for cities all around the world. Endless entertainment from the start of the event at 6pm, from Justin Bieber, Drake, Pitbull to Lady Gaga’s hitting the button at 11:59 to officially start the balls decent. Mayor Michael Bloomberg actually invited Lady Gaga to do the honors and of course she accepted. Having Gaga take us into the New Year is a such a gift for New Yorkers being she is a native New Yorker herself, not to mention the biggest entertainer in the world. For those who will be at home that night, have no fear, the Official Times Square live stream will be sharing the festivities all night to viewers over the internet. Also, as in every New Years Eve, ABC will be doing their “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin Eve” show which is a television staple at this point for the big night.
