Times Square new redesign

Times Square will be getting a new redesign by 2014. The Times Square Alliance says it will “simplify and de-clutter” and create a unified identity for the heart of Times Square. The $27 million plan transforms the plazas into “sleek silver-gray spaces populated by slablike benches and metallic tiles”. The plan is expected to be completed in 2014. Nearby Tourist Attractions: Times SquareTimes Square Visitors CenterTheatre DistrictOfficial New York Visitor Center (NYCGO), Toys R Us Times Square, Mars 2112, Duffy Square TKTS ticket booth, Hard Rock Café, International Center of Photography, Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises, Bryant Park, New York Public Library, Hershey’s Store Times SquareM&M’s World in Times Square, Mars 2112, Spirit of Broadway, ESPN Zone, Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum, Planet Hollywood, NASDAQ MarketSite, ABC’s Studios (where Good Morning America is broadcast live), Bubba Gump Shrimp Company – seafood Restaurant, and the famous Carmine’s Italian Restaurant.

Time Square is the top most traveled spot in the world located in the heart of the Theatre District, stretching along broadway from 42nd to 48th Street and on Broadway and Seventh Avenue. Times Square hosts the ball drop each year to break in the New Year at one Times Square.  Its one of the most watched televised events annually.  In 1904 Times Square officially got its name when The New York Times moved to The Times Building.  The building has no actual tenants above the retail level and instead has over 25 Billboard signs generating approximately 200,000 in monthly revenues.  Some of the billboards are digital and are considered the most valuable in the world and get up to almost 10,000 an hour.  The Theatre District which is like an extension of the area surrounds Times Square from east to west and from North to South.  A lot of businesses in the area are driven because of people shopping and dinning out before and after shows.
